Description
NRW is seeking to award a framework agreement with 7 lots covering the whole of Wales to secure skilled and competent contractors to operate the steep ground walking excavators. Operating these machines is a unique specialisation which requires a high level of skill, competence, dexterity and experience. Contractors will also be required to have an awareness of terrain, soil structure and the capabilities of the machine along with ensuring and maintaining planting positions adhering to OGB4 on steep banks. The purpose of the requirement is to secure steep ground operations throughout Wales. Walking excavator steep ground preparation is a fundamental element of silvicultural establishment practices ensuring prepared brash free planting positions within screefed aerated soils. This will ensure UKWAS/FSC compliance, meet industry best practice standards in line with OGN 4 whilst delivering an increasing planting programme.
