Summary of the work • Provide Solution Architect expertise to a Beta Build team. • Work as part of a team to ensure new systems and services are robust, scalable, open & secure. • Support teams establishing key processes, documentation, tools & techniques. • Knowledge transfer & exit strategy. Specialist role Technical Architect Expected Contract Length Contract to 29/06/18 with possibility of extension Latest start date Monday 26 March 2018 Maximum Day Rate £800 IR35: o If the applicant is working through an intermediary which is either a partnership, limited company or other person not being an agency, they fall within IR35 o If the applicant is consultancy, company or agency who pay tax and NIC, they will fall outside IR35 o If the applicant is a sole trader, they will need to be treated as employed o Ultimately we are unable to confirm the IR35 status until the evaluation process is complete, the successful candidate is agreed and the individual’s circumstances are processed through the HMRC ‘check employment status for tax’ tool. Who Speclialist Work With • Digital teams delivering initial services • Beta Build team for ‘Digital Licensing – Septic Tanks’ • Enterprise Architect and Senior Managers, for example Head of IS What Specialists Work On • Undertake the role of a Lead Solutions Architect within a Beta Build team. • Provision of specialist advice to digital teams. Skills & Experience • Proven track record (minimum 5 years) of working As Lead Solution Architect in multiple domains (public and private sector, for example government and banking) • Direct experience of Lead Solution Architect role in major £multi-million projects • Strong software development and application architecture experience, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and at least one programming language • Experience of structured methodologies, languages and notation, for example UML and TOGAF. • Significant technical experience (depth and breadth) of working across different technologies and down through the technology stack from presentation, integration to data. • Experience of scaling online services • Awareness of emerging security issues • Ability to read and understand solution design documentation • Understanding of agile environments., continual delivery techniques and dev-ops cultures • Understanding of how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences Nice to Haves • Eagerness to influence how digital services are delivered within SEPA and across government • Experience of designing and implementing secure systems • Experience of mentoring technical staff and managing stakeholders • Understanding of government best practices, standards and policies • Experience of cloud technologies, enterprise integration tools and extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools • Awareness of how to budget in an on-demand environment and an understanding of legal implications • View technology as an enabler of great digital services Work Location Scottish Environment Protection Agency Angus Smith Building, Maxim 6. Parklands Avenue, Eurocentral, Holytown, North Lanarkshire, ML1 4WQ Working Arrangments • Co-located with digital teams at SEPA's Angus Smith Office in Holytown (Central Belt) • 35 hour working week • 5 days a week with face-to-face meetings Security Clearance Disclosure Scotland Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). There is no specific expertise in a particular OS technology required.” 2. Which particular programming language/s should the candidate have experience of ? “There is no particular preference for a specific programming language but an understanding of the overall MS.Net architecture could be beneficial as core parts of the architecture stack will be built using Microsoft technologies, however this is not a hands-on development role.”
