Scottish Red Meat Net Zero and Nature Restoration Roadmap

Published

Value

100,000 GBP

Description

The purpose of this project is to create a roadmap detailing exactly what the “footprint” of the Scottish Red Meat Sector needs to do and indicative costs involved to meet the Scottish Government targets to achieve net zero by 2045. The “footprint” of the Scottish red meat sector includes, beef and sheep farmers, pig farmers, processors, livestock auction marts, livestock hauliers, feed merchants, catering butchers, retail butchers and food service providers. The main scope of this project is to produce a science backed roadmap that the Scottish red meat industry can use to both demonstrate its credentials and identify where key actions must be taken to meet the Scottish Governments net zero legislation. The roadmap must also ensure that nature restoration and addressing the biodiversity crisis is also addressed. QMS are keen to take a supply chain approach to Net Zero and Nature restoration, so that there is clear alignment from farm gate through to processor and retail level, ensuring that we can realise the commercial potential of reducing emissions and taking actions to benefit nature.
