Description

A key part of the historic built heritage of Northern Ireland is monuments in State Care. To ensure that State Care Monuments owned or managed by the DfC are maintained effectively and to a high standard, the DfC is seeking to appoint suitably experienced contractor(s) for the provision of grounds maintenance at a number of sites under their management from 2017 to 2021. A key principle for this contract is an awareness of the sensitivities of these irreplaceable historic sites. In many cases, the material below ground contains sensitive buried archaeological remains that can be damaged by the use of inappropriate equipment or maintenance methods. Many sites have upstanding archaeological remains, either as masonry or earthworks, the integrity of which must be protected. It is important that prospective contractors recognise that the work required is on specialist sites and is not a standard civil service estate grounds maintenance environment.
