The Scottish Government has committed to undertake a comprehensive, national assessment of the health and social care needs of people who are in prison, which will be delivered through a phased approach through several studies. This will help to ensure that ongoing efforts to integrate health and social care in prisons are informed by evidence and are person-centred. This specification is for an assessment of the mental health needs of the prison population. Separate, future work will address other health care needs of the prison population.
