Summary of the work Lead DevOps Engineer required to provide technical leadership, mentorship and delivery capability to an emerging team in an award-winning transformation programme. Specialist role Data engineer Expected Contract Length 12 months initial, with an optional 12 months extension Latest start date Monday 1 July 2019 Early Market Engagement Role is outside of IR35 - there is no incumbant in place - testing market with advert for day rate Who Speclialist Work With The existing team is comprised mostly of supplier, contract and Civil Service resources. The specialist will be expected to be embedded into current delivery teams and will be expected to lead a small team. What Specialists Work On We are looking for an exceptional Lead DevOps Engineer with a good balance of technical understanding and strong leadership skills who have proven experience in the development, deployment and support of services built on a track record of stability, availability and quality Skills & Experience • Technology knowledge - good experience of four or more of: • o Best Practice secure infrastructure o AWS & associated tooling • o Networking o Linux (CentOS or RHEL) • o Automation Tooling: Ansible, Puppet, Terraform o Monitoring & Alerting • Making and guiding decisions • o Capable of making and guiding effective decisions, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached. • o Able to make decisions characterised by managed levels of risk and complexity and recommend decisions as risk and complexity increase. • o Take ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements • Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical o Translate technical concepts between infrastructure, delivery management and service management so they are understood by al • o Able to speak on behalf of technical and service management teams and facilitate the relationships with indirect stakeholders o Able to share knowledge and mentor (potentially non-technical) colleagues • o Able to share knowledge and mentor (potentially non-technical) colleagues • Please provide a CV - covering above to DSprocurement@gov.scot Nice to Haves • • Governance • o Understands technical governance and is able to participate in or deliver the assurance of a service • o Understands government requirements of governance, auditability and accountability • • Technology knowledge - good experience of one or more of • o Best Practice AWS Architectures (i.e. Immutable Infrastructure, IaC, Ephemeral Infrastructure) o MySQL compatible DBs: MySQL, RDS, Aurora, MariaDB • o Build Pipeline automation, CI/CD o Build Tooling: Packer, Vault, Git, SonarQube, Jenkins • o Government Cloud Security standards (NIST, OWASP, CIS, NCSC etc…) o BASH, Python • o Cloud identity & IAM solutions (i.e. LDAP, AWS Directory Services) o RESTful microservices • o Splunk o IT Service Management • PLease also detail nice to have skills and experience in CV as above Work Location 1 Pacific Quay, Glasgow - attendance on-site is required for at least four days a week, with one day of optional working from home. Working Arrangments The specialist is expected to be on-site for at least four days a week with one day optional working from home. • Work as part of a small team of DevOps specialists and engineers ensuring services are understood • Work as a technical subject matter expert, develop the strategic and tactical engineering roadmaps for technologies reviewing and steering platform scope to ensure maximum value from investment • Build and maintain IaC artefacts, looking ahead for future opportunities or blockers, and ensuring decisions by teams align with the strategy • Identify operational improvements and work to ensure a stable service Security Clearance SC level clearance is required for this position. Disclosure Scotland will sponsor the SC application process where the specialist does not already have SC level clearance.
