The Review of Self-harm in Wales

Published

Description

We need the work to answer the following questions: What is the current status regarding service provision and patient/client ‘pathways’ in Wales for people who self-harm, including emerging responses in development? What is the economic impact of self-harm to the health and wider economy? (see Wales Violence Prevention Unit – cost to the Healthcare System , and Northern Ireland Economic Cost of Suicide and Deliberate Self-Harm in Northern Ireland ) What are the necessary steps we need to take to improve our response to self-harm, reflecting evidence-based best practice and effective intervention? Methodology: We would expect the inquiry to: Explore both the health and cost impacts of self-harm in Wales Recognise and articulate issues to be addressed around data capture and intelligence to inform service development and evaluation Include an appraisal of effective interventions, or ‘what works’, to support people who self-harm, with examples of effective practice developed both in Wales and elsewhere in the UK, including self-care and digital/on-line support Describe the different sectors and settings in which the recognition, assessment and support relating to self-harm needs to be available, including the optimal inter-operability or connectivity between sectors and services for different client groups; Further explore the issues with people with lived experience, across the life-course, building on the work published by the Samaritans. Be able to inform the development of training and development products for those who come into contact with people who self-harm
