To develop and maintain a breastfeeding support service that helps mothers to continue to breastfeed to at least 6-8 weeks and beyond To recruit, train and supervise breastfeeding support volunteers and staff. To offer training and supervision to support volunteers to facilitate breastfeeding support group programmes. This should be delivered in appropriate settings using a range of methods including face to face and digital. To help mothers become more aware of the range of breastfeeding services and resources available to support them. To provide targeted and tailored breastfeeding support for mothers in target areas through the Targeted Support model. To complement the work of maternity services, the Children and Young People’s Public Health service, which includes health visiting, Early Help and children’s centres and family hubs in supporting mothers to continue to breastfeed.
