WP1708 Interaction Designer for EU-Emissions Trading System

Who Speclialist Work With The specialist will be working as part of the EU Emissions Trading System team which are developing a service to replace the current service should the UK exit from the European Union and no longer be a member of the EU ETS. As some team members may be more junior or new to agile ways of working, the role could include elements of coaching and mentoring. The specialist will need to assist in managing wider stakeholder expectations and respond in ways that other people understand. The team consists of a DM, UR, BA, PM, TA and Dev. What Specialists Work On Working collaboratively with the alpha team to build and test prototypes of the ETS service with end-users. The discovery recommended a list of prioritised journeys/features to be prototyped. The specialist will show the value of working in a user-centred, agile way. The team may consider doing design sprints, thus facilitation experience would be valuable. Work will be informed and iterated based on user-needs gathered through research and usability testing. Key patterns and learnings developed in this process will be reused. The role will involve prototyping on all levels of fidelity, from paper to use of the GDS design toolkit. Working Arrangements Monday to Friday. A professional working day, hours and working pattern are needed to deliver the service efficiently. Mainly based from our office in Westminster, London Work Location Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) : 1 Victoria Street, Westminster, London, SW1E 5ND Security Clearance Minimum Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) Additional T&Cs Skills & Experience Experience designing digital services that meet the needs of users and experience of interaction design for the web Be able to sketch and prototype on paper and in HTML Ability to work closely with user researchers to understand and interpret data, analytics and user research findings. Able to translate user needs into simple, clear user interfaces. Knowledge and passion for, user centred design practices in public facing and internal services and applications. Experience of working to an established set of design standards. Substantial knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and good accessibility practices. Conviction that digital services should meet the needs of all users so that no one is excluded, with particular reference to access needs and assisted digital. Strong communication skills; confident in explaining user-centred design decisions to stakeholders. Skilled at justifying design decisions with reference to evidence from user research. Ability to simplify complex information (So anyone can understand it - especially to stakeholders) be able to explain ideas in a way that other people understand Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team in an agile development environment. Able to work at pace; at ease with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads and goals. Nice to Haves Experience of working on government services using the Digital Service Standard and Government Design Principles Experience editing and challenging content created by others in a constructive manner. Experience of engaging stakeholders to improve understanding of the importance of good content design.
