Summary of the work Cyber Mission Data-Alpha(CMD-A) shall improve the quality of Defence data, through new data structures to enable data exploitation through Machine Learning and Data Science. CMD-A will facilitate the delivery of new Cyber Insights upon data currently held and identify information to assist decision making whilst saving resource effort through automation. Specialist role Data engineer Expected Contract Length 18 months Latest start date Tuesday 13 April 2021 Maximum Day Rate £750 per day MAX. (excluding VAT and inclusive of T&S) Who Speclialist Work With The Data Engineer will work within the multi-disciplined Cyber Mission Data Alpha team. This team consists of Authority Crown Servants, current contract supplier technical resource, and separately procured technical resource. The Cyber Mission Data Alpha team fits within the current construct of the Data as a Service function, which forms part of the wider Defence Cyber Operations. What Specialists Work On Data Engineers are responsible for implementing the designs of the data engineering community, applying data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems. You shall document source-to-target mappings and re-engineer manual data flows to enable scaling and repeatable use while supporting the build of data streaming systems. You shall write ETL scripts and code to make sure the ETL process performs optimally and develop business intelligence reports that can be re-used build accessible data for analysis. Skills & Experience • Proven experience as a Data Engineer (10%) • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Engineering or other numerical field is preferred (10%) • Experience in data mining (5%) • Awareness of machine-learning and operations research, statistical data analysis and data visualisation (4%) • Practitioner of R, SQL and Python. (5%) • Familiarity with Cloud Services (such as Azure, AWS & IBM). (4%) • Familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset (4%) • Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop) (5%) • Experience of Agile development CI/CD pipeline. (5%) • Analytical mind set and business acumen (4%) • Problem-solving aptitude (4%) • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. Working Arrangments 5 days per week, either from MOD Corsham or working from home (to be agreed with the Authority). Security Clearance DV, although initially SC (must be held to start role) would be acceptable with the aim to acquire DV once onboarded. Sole UK nationality is required for this role.
